Certainty in Uncertain Times

So it happened, what I had been expecting and hoping against: all flights cancelled into Brazil. And then, right on the heals of that news, came the urgent request from Brazil: prayers needed for the Amazon area - the coronavirus is spreading, with no peak yet even predicted, and medical facilities are under-equipped and over-loaded. So much uncertainty. Mind-boggling. Seemingly hopeless. Sadness and frustration. Until...
Until I remember what IS certain. God is good. God is in control. God is all-powerful. God is faithful. God is love. And I begin to settle down. Yes, it's true that our June/July trip is cancelled. But it's also true that God has opened the door for the Sedli Project to minister in Brazil. And what IS certain is that the door God opens, no-one can shut. The timing may look different, but the mission remains certain: to get the Word of God into the hearts and hands of those who have little or no access.
Now, more than ever before, I see the vital importance to get God's powerful promises to the people of the Amazon. Can you imagine facing these uncertain times without the certainty of Jesus' love? I couldn't bear it!
So what do we do now? Well, we do the most powerful and effective thing we can do: we pray. We pray for protection for the people of the Amazon. We pray for healing. We pray for sustenance. We pray for medical expertise and medical supplies. And we pray for God to miraculously pave a way for us to get to Brazil. We pray for our own hearts to be tendered and strengthened. We pray for God's message of truth to ring out. We pray for God to go before us and with us and behind us. And we pray that we will be hands and feet for Christ to the precious women and their families when - not if - we go to Brazil.
We are certain of this: what God calls us to do, he arranges and equips. Now that is something to bank on!
